AR
There has been a slight misunderstanding about AR and the checking system. If you have read to them, please place a check mark on the date that you read to them. If you have asked questions and you feel they are ready to test, check and circle the check for the actual day theywill test. For ex., Today is the 6th, if you let them read to you tonight and you ask them questions, place the circled check mark on the 7th.

Don't forget that we will miss a whole week because of Thanksgiving!! ALL STUDENTS need to take at least 3 tests per week to be able to reach their goals. Plus some of the students do not have an average of 85% so they will need to take extra tests to bring up their average.
Please email if you have any questions about AR!!!

Monday, November 5, 2012

Book Fair
If you brought money for your child to spend at the book fair, please be here in the morning between 7:30 and 7:40. This will allow them to have plenty of time to buy what they want and be back in the classroom to do their morning procedures. Thanks
Field Trip Info

If you are volunteering to drive on the field trip you must have a vehicle with a 3rd row. We can't allow children to ride in the front seat, even if it is your own child. We must follow state laws. We will have plenty of other field trips so I will try to let everyone have the opportunity to drive. If you drove on the last field trip, I am going to let others have the opportunity to drive before you to be fair.

Monday, September 24, 2012

Please let your child wear their field trip tshirts on Friday for Grandparents Day. They can wear shorts, jeans, or skirt. Please no flip-flops.

We have a new class pet and we will be voting to name it. "It" is a lizard and I know NOTHING about keeping a lizard as a pet. Grace's mom brought us a home for it to stay in but I do need some other things to put in it. I do not know what they eat, I hope they like dead bugs because I know several students have been collecting them this weekend. :) If you have any knowledge on lizards, PLEASE email me ASAP!!!!

Finding Nemo 3D Field Trip
Both 1st grade classes as well as K5 and K4 will be going to the movie theater on Friday, Sept. 14th (this Friday) to see Finding Nemo 3D. I know this is very short notice, but arrangements were just finalized. Cost for children is $5.00. This includes admission and kid's snack tray. All children will receive the same snacks, not optional.  Adult admission is $5.00 and can purchase concessions at regular price upon arrival. We will leave school at 10:00 and the movie will begin at 10:30. Parents are welcome on this trip. All student money must be sent to me. We will not pay upon arrival.

SPELLING

Next week we will begin spelling. You will receive a list every Monday. I have more info on this first list since this will be our 1st week. PLEASE START PRACTICING WHEN YOU GET THEM ON MONDAY.

Tuesday (9/11/12) will be picture day.
Please remember to bring all library books to school EVERYDAY. Help to remind students to put it in their backpacks when they are finished reading it. Overall, it will be the responsibilty of the student to bring their library books to school everyday. I will begin dropping clips to help them to remember. They need to learn to be responsible.

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

Math Fact Families

By the end of the week, students should know addition fact families 1-6 and subtraction families 1-5. Please practice with them at home. I would suggest putting the families on index cards or buying flashcards. We have begun speed drills and I have several that are not able to complete them because they are using their fingers to count. Please practice with them daily. If they know these families it will help so much with daily work and tests.
Britton will bring pizza and cupcakes on Friday to celebrate her birthday.

LIBRARY BOOKS
We are not starting AR until the next 9 weeks. I will send home plenty of information about AR when we start. We are letting them go ahead and start getting some extra practice with checking out library books. This is just for practice now so only read when you have time. I hope this helps with some of the questions you may have. Please email me if you have any further questions.

Friday, August 31, 2012

I hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday weekend. Enjoy the extra day by thanking GOD for our many blessings. You have great children and they have blessed my life already!!!
Please remember to bring a note if you plan on checking your child out of school.

Thursday, August 30, 2012

A Few Reminders

Please remember to drop students off and let them walk into the room by themselves. Sometimes it hinders them from doing their morning procedures plus they are big girls and boys now. Also if you would like to speak with me about your student and/or grades please email me and we will set up a conference time.
Also don't forget to send folders back to school everyday and on Fridays send back the signed graded papers on Monday as well.
Thanks

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Please check the test page, I have moved the Math Test to another day.

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

In class we have been practicing writing and answering questions from our decodables. There is a practice test in their folders. THIS DOES NOT COUNT AS A REAL GRADE.  I graded their paper in front of them to show them how I grade. Monday will be our 1st grade on decodables. We will have a new decodable almost everyday so the majority of our reading grade comes from these tests. Please email me if you have any questions. THEY DID WONDERFUL ON THIS PRACTICE TEST. I AM SO VERY PROUD OF THEM. :) Also we only have a certain amount of time to complete the test so whatever is not complete, I will have to take off points.
Sight Words and Math Fact Families Sheet
Please go over the homework sheet on a daily basis. I would suggest putting all the words and fact families on index cards and use them as flash cards. They need to be able to say the words or answers within 5 secs. Many of these words and fact families will be a review, others we will begin using them on a daily basis. The fact families will be in our math lessons and speed drills every day. We will begin speed drills on Friday. The students will have one minute to answer 8 math problems. Throughout the year, we will add more problems. Students need to be able to answer these problems without counting on their fingers. Please email me if you have any questions.

Monday, August 20, 2012

Every Monday, David Nelson has a devotional with both classes. He will give the students a bible verse to memorize for the next Monday. Please go over this with your child. I will post the verse on the blog each Monday and they will have the verse in their folders.

This week's verse:
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
                                        Phillippians 4:13
If you send a check for lunch/snack please make it out to the Pig Cafe.  Also please write their names on the index card or ziplock bag.
We will begin homework and tests this week. Most weeks I will not give homework on Wednesdays because of church unless it is a study guide. Please check the homework and and test "tabs" daily. I will post assignments  for the week on Monday mornings.

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Please bring a jacket/cardi for them to keep in their cubbies. The lunchroom is very cold when we have lunch.
Foundation Meeting and Open House
The Foundation meeting will be Thursday, August 23 at 6:00 p.m. in the cafetorium. We will have an Open House and parents will be able to go to classrooms after the business meeting.

SPIRIT DAY
We will have spirit day tomorrow. If you would like your child to have a tatoo or spirit badge please bring their money in a zip lock back tomorrow. We will put them on after P.E. Both are $1 each.

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

*Remember new year and new rules. It will take several days to get adjusted. Please do not be upset if your child comes home with a "yellow" or "orange" dot this week. By next week, students should know what I expect of them. Please email me if you have any questions. :)
