End of the Year Party
Drivers we will leave the school around 9:30 and arrive back around 1:00.
If you are bringing food and would like to get there before to help decorate that would be great.

Changes for Field Day
Students will not be allowed to wear bathing suits. Please wear shorts and a shirt. Students may wear caps or visors. You will not need to bring an extra set of clothes.
Concessions will be available (drinks, water, gatorade, chips, and candy) for $1 per item. All money will go to the physical education program.

I will be sending home waivers today in your student's folder. Please sign them and return them by Friday. The school requires that we have these waivers for any field trips. If you have any questions please email me and I will do my best to answer them.
Please put on this form if you plan on coming to the party and if you plan on taking your child after the party. (anywhere on the form is fine)

Next Week
On the 15th, we will have our AR slide party. This will take place outside so please wear comfortable clothes, no skirts or dresses, and please put sunscreen on them before you bring them to school.
On the 16th, we will have field day. Again please go ahead and put sunscreen on them before they arrive at school. Also, let them wear a swimsuit under a t-shirt and shorts with tennis shoes. Bring an extra set of clothes/shoes to change in afterwards. Also bring a towel and a bottle of water.

We will have a dress rehersal in front of K4-4th grades on Wednesday. Please make sure I have all of their costumes before then. We want them to practice with their costumes on.
Also, we usually have benches that we have used for our beds but they are no longer here at the school. Mrs. Trecy is trying to find us 3 cots that are light enough for Mrs. Blackwell and I to move around. If you have one please email me and let me know so we can have a back-up in case Mrs. Trecy can't find 3.
Plus if anyone has a plastic hoe or rake that we can borrow, please bring it sometime before Wednesday.

I hate to be the mean teacher but as a whole we are not following the rules. EVERYONE has been talking when they know they are not supposed to. I know that we are almost finished with school and everyone is excited but we must continue to follow the rules. I have put "Pet Day" and the board and we have only "Pet" left. If I erase the whole word, we will not have Pet Day. I really HATE to do this but we must learn to contiune to follow rules. It is not just a few students, it is EVERYONE!!!

Pike Liberal Arts Beauty Pageant

If you would like to be in the PLAS Beauty Pageant, please fill out an entry form and return it with the $25 entry fee to your homeroom teacher by Friday, April 19. Checks should be made payable to PLAS Cheerleaders and attached to the entry form. For more information call Natalie Lankford at 334-672-3301 or Angie Grice at 205-789-6218. The K4 - 4th Grade contestants will wear heirloom dresses or Sunday dresses/church attire and the 5th -12th Grade contestants will wear floor length evening gowns.

**School will dismiss at 12:00 next Friday, March 15th due to the Jonah McWaters Tournament hosted here that afternoon. We will start early pick-up at 11:45. Please have your child picked up no later than 12:00. We will not have lunch at school. There will be after-school care that afternoon. If your child stays in after-school care, you will need to send them a lunch for the day.
FIELD TRIP INFO
Our field trip to the Super Scientific Circus is Tuesday, 3/12/13 in Montgomery at The Montgomery Performing Arts Center.
The show begins at 11:45 so we will leave at 10:00. Please bring a snack for them to eat before we leave because we will not eat lunch until after the show.
Pack a sack lunch in a throw away bag. If it is not raining, we will picnic at The Shakespeare Festival after the show. If it is raining, we will return to school and have lunch.
IF YOU ARE A DRIVER, PLEASE BRING AN ICE-CHEST AND A BLANKET. Please email me if you have any questions. My drivers are: Penny, Kelli, Corrie, Amanda, and Gigi.

On March 1 we will celebrate read across America day! Dr. Seuss’ birthday is March 2, which is where this fun day originated from! We are having a door decorating contest, a fun reading assembly, a birthday party for Dr. Seuss, we dress as our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, and we have guest readers! If you or anyone you know would like to come in that day to read to our class, please let me know! We would also LOVE for you to send a treat for our birthday party!
This is always a fun fun day for our kids! So just let me know if you can bring something to our party and let me know if you or someone you know can read to the class!
Also in your child's folder, we have information about Jump Rope for Heart. This must be turned in on Feb. 28.
ALSO IF YOU HAVE NOT SENT YOUR FIELD TRIP MONEY, TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY TO DO SO.

Okay it is time for FLAT STANLEY!!! I have sent home a letter about Flat Stanley. This is such a fun time for 1st graders. We will keep track of all the places our Flat Stanleys will visit. We would like for him to visit friends and/or relatives around the country, or even around the world.

*** The Blue Jean Ball will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the Troy Country Club from 7 pm until 12 am. The Blue Jean Ball is a social for parents, alumni, and friends of Pike Liberal Arts School. Entertainment will include "County Line " featuring Benji Sanders and there will be a silent auction.
Tickets are $25 per person or $40 per couple. Hors d'oeuvres are included in the ticket price.
Proceeds from the event go towards special projects of the Public Relations Committee. Tickets can be purchased from any member of the Public Relations Committee or School Board. You can contact the PLAS office for more information.

Today we will receive our Reading Books!! Starting Monday, we will have 1-2 Reading Comprehension Tests per week. Students will bring home their Reading Books EVERYDAY!!! Please let them read to you and ask them comprehension questions. Also, we have gone over how to take care of our books.
Grading Procedures for Reading Test
Each question is worth 10 points each. In questions 9 and 10, students must write their answers in complete sentences. We have been writing complete sentences all year so students should know how to write them. I will count off 1 point for misspelled words and incorrect letter formation. 2 points will be taken off for capitalization and ending marks. Please email me if you any questions!! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!!
Thursday we will celebrate the 100th day of school!!! I am sending home a homework sheet that will need to be sent back by Thursday. Directions are on the back. I am also sending home a piece of card stock for you to glue to the "100" paper so that I can hang them outside of my classroom. PLEASE GLUE PAPER ONTO THE CARD STOCK BEFORE PUTTING YOUR 100 ITEMS ON.
PS: Some things may need to be hot glued on.

A FEW REMINDERS
Please look at your child's folder and see if it needs to be replaced. Some of them are falling apart. If you have not sent new crayons, pencils, and colored pencils, please do so.
ADDING MONEY
As a whole, we are having a difficult time adding change. When you are at home, empty out your pockets/wallet and help add the change with your child. This is a great way to practice. This will only improve if we PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.
